In next 1-2 years R17 will come out and it has the needed features for automation. Modems have to be made, scale drives down prices, and applications made and proven. This put the innovation cycle at about 3-5 years. Mining, oil, gas, and automakers are putting the networks in now. Big job losses start around 2027 and accelerate. It’s going to hit blue collar and rural areas (trucking is one of the last good jobs for them). Their anger will be stoked and funneled by the right wing. New despots will rise. Corporate capitalism has never had a problem with this. Probably only way to mitigate this is implement a UBI asap. Social programs are hard to claw back, why the right does everything possible to block their introduction.
Your reference to Slouka reminds me of Bertrand Russell’s essay, In Praise of Idleness, which was a reaction to the grind of the industrial revolution and an appeal to purposeless behaviour as an antidote.
