I have barely been able to tolerate the past few election cycles, and I consider myself to be a deeply political person. I am happy to hear you will be exploring ways of improving the health of our political systems and our democracy in future issues of this newsletter (which I am loving, by the way).

I agree wholeheartedly!

I been politically interested since roughly the age of 12 (which is an odd thing to admit, but it is true), and I find myself growing more cynical on an almost daily basis.

Spent some time over the holidays with a couple friends’ families and their kids. Such a different world, such a change of pace (my partner and I don’t have kids). Left my phone up in the bedroom and played soccer or TICKET TO RIDE or BEYBLADES for hours. Good for the soul!

Seriously. That distance makes such a difference. Part of the reason I like playing video games with friends and, same, board games.

I still think we need politics because it's the alternative to, as you suggest, more expressly brutal forms of power. Though it's brutal in its own way. But we really need to do it differently.
